Tonkotsu Broth
May 27, 2026
Costco came out with this Tonkotsu Ramen Broth, the problem (not a problem) is that it comes in a 4 pack LOL They expire in December but I don't think I'll consume all that broth (32oz/946 mL) solely for ramen, so I've been trying to use it in everything.
Of course initially I wanted to eat it with ramen but I could not and still haven't found chashu to add to it. I've been looking for over a week. I've made my own chashu before. It's very labor intensive and there's a chance I could make a huge mess, so I really don't want to deal with it since I'm not the homeowner (basically I'd use a pressure cooker but have seen chances of it making a mess so bad that it hits the ceiling 😭 we got too much wildlife that comes through the backyard because we live close to the mountains, so I dont want to set it up outside and draw them towards the house either lol they normally come on their own in the nights and early mornings looking for food anyway). So I will eventually make ramen whenever my local japanese grocery store stocks it 🤣
Made the gravy
I made gravy with the broth, it's so delicious and light, surprisingly. I poured it over leftovers from Brent's Deli. It was cornbeef hash with homefries. I had already eaten half of it without realizing that I consumed most of the cornbeef hash lol
Earlier in the day I made karaage in duck fat. Used the left over drippings (about 2 tbsp), 2 tbsp potato starch and 2 cups of broth to make the gravy. Pretty easy.
Used some broth to enjoy with gyoza
My mom does that thing where if she knows you like something, she'll gift you x100 of said thing you like LOL I've only heard of dad's having that habit, then there's my mom haha She gave my husband 2 bags of gyoza. Used some of the broth to eat with it for dinner.
